The Syracuse defense allowed eight first-half goals to Army on Saturday, when SU lost at the last second.

A last-second goal resulting in a Syracuse (2-1) loss on Saturday has bumped SU four spots to No. 10 in Inside Lacrosse’s Top 20 poll released Monday.

The Orange battled back to tie Army (3-1) with just over two minutes left. But with a half-second on the clock, David Symmes put one past goalie Evan Molloy to give Army its third win of the season.

Attackmen Nick Mariano and Jordan Evans bounced back after a combined two-point showing the week prior. Mariano finished with a hat trick and an assist while Evans totaled a pair of goals and assists. Brendan Bomberry scored another hat trick. He’s finished with four points in each of Syracuse’s three games.

All five ACC teams are ranked inside the Top 20: No. 4 Notre Dame, No. 7 North Carolina, No. 9 Virginia, No. 10 Syracuse and No. 20 Duke.

After Saturday’s upset, Army jumped inside the rankings to No. 16. Syracuse hosts No. 9 Virginia on Sunday at noon in its first ACC matchup of the season. The Cavaliers are coming off a loss to Pennsylvania.
