Syracuse sweeps California road trip in 3-0 shutout win over UC Davis

Lies Lagerweij scored her second goal of the season on Monday night as Syracuse finished its California road trip with three straight wins.

Goalkeepers Borg van der Velde and Emma Likly combined for Syracuse’s third shutout in as many games as the No. 5 Orange (3-0) blanked UC Davis (0-2), 3-0, on Monday afternoon in Davis, California.

In net, the freshman van der Velde started for the third straight game and has now started her college career with 175 minutes of scoreless play. Likly, also a freshman, started the second half, posting a scoreless 35 minutes.

Senior back Lies Lagerweij notched her second goal of the season to open the game. Before the first half ended, freshman Sarah Luby added her first career goal. Midway through the second half, Emma Tufts added her first goal of the year to put the Orange up 3-0.

Statistically, Syracuse blitzed the Aggies. The Orange put 20 shots on goal while UC Davis had none. In total, SU outshot UC Davis 36-1 and piled on 15 corners.

After a three-game sweep on its California road trip, Syracuse plays Bucknell in its home opener on Saturday at 1 p.m.
